Report on Amber -March 30th 2006 By MRS BARBARA LOWES

Well I am nearly 5 months old on April 4th and Barbara will be 51 on April 1st-What a fool!

I have settled in my new home in Barrow-in-Furness really well. It's great, I have a bed in the lounge, which I use most of the day and a larger bed in the hall, just like the one I was born in, to be cosy in when Barbara goes out and when we say good-night.
Life is one big barrel of fun! After I have had my breakfast and Barbara has finished hers, I can climb up on her knee for a cuddle for 10 minutes before she gets ready to take me out for a walk. I am walking really well on a lead and I stand still at the kerb, until told to "walk on". I nearly always remember to "be quick" whenever we go out for a walk. I have been on the beach and dipped my paws in the sea, through the woods at Furness Abbey and up into the Lake District where I've been up the fells and said "hello" to the sheep. I always travel in my Fabrikennel, because its safe, snug and warm.
One morning when I got up and went outside, I sunk up to my chest in cold, white stuff-it was everywhere-my little legs couldn't move! Later we went out in the snow --I wasn't sure about it at first but I really enjoyed it after I got used to it!! When we got back home and I was dried with a towel, I lay in front of the fire to get warm and I just rested my eyes-well it was difficult trying to get about in the snow!
What else do I like? Well I love going to visit Barbara's parents. Norman is blind and I am trying really hard to not get under his feet and when he takes me out with Barbara, I am really patient when he shouts me to come and I am already there! He gives me extra special cuddles and plays with me on the floor. Sometimes we go and visit his sister who's in a home for the blind and I make everyone happy by letting them hold and stroke me.
I like going to school too. I go to ring craft on Wednesdays and obedience classes on Thursdays. I love showing off and I am looking forward to entering my first puppy class in May or June. The photographer in "Pets at Home" is going to take my picture on Sunday I do hope I win a prize. I am learning not to be afraid of the bigger, boisterous dogs at obedience classes and can stand, sit, lie down, come and fetch whenever I am told. However, at home sometimes I can be a little madam, doing what I want to do. Barbara calls me a minx -and sometimes laughs at my antics!! I help her to garden, but she doesn't appreciate it.
I have found my bark recently and like to hear my own voice. I have found that I can help Barbara as she is deaf and doesn't always hear the telephone or the doorbell and I go to her and bark and take her to the phone or door. Barbara really appreciates this and would like me to be properly trained as a hearing dog. We are waiting for an assessment to be carried out, to see if we fall into the right category. So you see I have a very busy and enjoyable life. I must go now as I am teething badly at the moment and my gums are really sore tonight. Barbara has just got my teething toy out of the freezer to soothe my gums so I can sleep. Night Night!
